GREEN MALAY DWARF BAMBOO

Large, not really dwarf, great hedge or screen. Grows profusely.

Timor origin. Noted for the colourful culms that progress from greenish purple to dark brownish purple with age.
Grows well in rich moist soil.

A new arrival, taxonomy still to be confirmed.

Culms mature to a golden colour when grown in full sun.

Has several to many white striped leaves and one or two thin white stripes on the culm inter nodes.

Similar leaves to the riviereorum with light reddish to yellow striped green culms. A very dainty, erect, hedging bamboo.

Differs from fernleaf only in its fresh culms, which at first are light reddish to yellow and striped with green.

A popular upright tight clumping species favoured by landscapers and permaculture growers. The most versatile and popular productive windbreak, avenue or feature plant in South East Qld.

A dense clumping Burmese bamboo with strong straight culms.

Bambusa ventricosa
THIN BUDDHA BELLY BAMBOO

Origin China. When stressed the internodes become short and swollen. Ideal potted or bonsai variety. Grows prolifically even in poor soil. Good stock fodder and windbreak.

Origin uncertain.
One of the most common species that grows worldwide, however not very common in Australia. Ideal for soil erosion control. Top timber variety.

Southern Mexico. Numerous tiny leaves on branchlets that completely encircle the culms. Said to be the most beautiful bamboo under cultivation.

One of only a few deciduous bamboos.

East India origin. Planted throughout S.E.Asia for shoot production and construction timber. Largest producer of edible shoots grown in Thailand. Planted at Belli Park for this purpose.

Taiwan origin. Similar to Latiflorus but with light and dark green culm stripes. Excellent feature clump in any garden.

A striated example of D.Brandsii. Very spectacular tight clump producing large amounts of edible shoots.

India, Burma, Thailand origin. A lowlands species noted for for its branching culms and small leaves. An attractive and edible shoot variety.

New Introduction. Similar in appearance to B.Chungii.

Malaysian origin. A strong and durable species used in Java for construction and building purposes. The young culms are split and used as cordage and lashings and is the only species used for the framework of rattan furniture. When mature, culm walls can be 3cm thick.

Indonesia origin. A beautiful multifunctional giant black. Used for furniture and musical instruments. Compliments any garden.

Indonesian origin. Quick growing with straight culms, good construction timber and noted for its sweet edible shoots.

HAINAN BAMBOO

S E Asian. Forms tight clumps, lower half free of branches. Resembles a large mushroom when seen from a distance.

Philippines bamboo used for wall boards and shingles. Thin walled, straight and largely branch-free culms. Split and flattened culms used in press moulded furniture and utensils.

A recent discovery from Murray Island in the Torres Straight which separates Australia & Papua New Guinea.

Borneo origin. Erect culms when young, later drooping or arching. Internodes 40cm long.

Thailand. Erect compact clump. Ornamental.
