Grown in China, Taiwan and here at Belli Park as a major vegetable shoot producer. Currently in the fourth year of fertiliser and water application trials administered by Central Queensland University (in conjunction with RIRDC) here at Belli. Has exceeded all growth expectations from when first planted in 1992. Readily accepted edible mid sized shoots harvesting over a ten week season also producing three medium sized poles per clump annually. A popular upright tight clumping species favoured by landscapers and permaculture growers. The most versatile and popular productive windbreak, avenue or feature plant in South East Qld. Planted extensively for shoot production in frost prone and soggy areas where it is not possible to grow running species. |
